The advantages and disadvantages of ever-increasing use of technology

Technology is an essential part of our society, and it most likely will be even more important for our descendants. There are many undeniable advantages of the increasing use and development of technology, but there are also some disadvantages of such a rapid progress of technology.

The technological progress is beneficial to humanity for several reasons. Firstly, at the medical level, technology helps to save countless lives and increase our lifespan. We are able to accurately diagnose diseases, treat sicknesses that used to be fatal, we perform incredibly complex surgeries, and we are able combat viruses and bacteria. Secondly, the invention of computers, smartphones and the Internet has made access to information and communication faster and easier. Information is stored and organized on the Internet, where anyone can access it. With the help of the Internet, people can broaden their mind, learn and educate themselves. Technology has changed communication in an incredible way; it has connected people all around the world. Thirdly, technology has improved our daily lives and has made our existence more comfortable. The clothes we wear, the house we live, the food we eat, the cars and planes we travel, the mobile phone we carry, and so on are just some gifts of technology.

On the other hand, the evolution of modern technology has disadvantages, and it can affect our lives in a negative way. First of all, the development of weaponry and the invention of weapons of mass destruction have put the humanity in grave danger. These instruments of death can be turned not only upon the aggressors, but also upon civilians seeking to exercise their freedoms of speech and assembly. Secondly, the ecological situation is getting worse and worse because of technology. The discharge of waste products into the environment has increased drastically, and this causes pollution and diminishes the quality of soil, water and air.  There is also depletion of natural resources. All of this affects our planet, our health and it will definitely have a harmful impact on future generations. Finally, we are too dependent on technology. We feel helpless if any of our technological tools fail to perform, and we often trust our devices to think for us.  All in all, technology has improved our lives. However, technology should be used with caution and only with the purpose to benefit humanity.
